Science Diet Sweepstakes

Your Coupon Buddy has the scoop on a sweepstakes for free dog food for the rest of your pet's life. Science Diet has been running some heavy promotions with coupons and sales at Petco. Register for the three bag challenge and you can print off a 5.00 off any size bag coupon. There is a $5.00 off your 25.00 purchase for Petco coupon that expires on 3/15/09 here. Petco often runs deals on 38-40lbs bags of Science Diet for less than $30.00. Or you could buy three 4lb bags at 8.49(if my memory serves me correct I think the price point is around this or a little more). Use three 5.00 off coupons along with the $5.00 off 25.00 and get 12lbs of dog food for 5.47+tax.

Coupons for March 1st

Here are some coupons to look forward to in the inserts for March 1.

1.00 off 2/Milkbone
1.00 off any Iams Dry Food
5.00 off any Iams Puppy
1.00 off any Pupperoni

Some areas may also receive a 20.00 mail in rebate form for Bissel vacuums or deep cleans. I have the Bissell Little Green Machine. I bought it right after I first got my pup to help clean up her accidents. It was one of the best purchases I ever made. I think I got it on sale for about 75.00 dollars. If you have a dog, small children or carpet that stains easily, I highly recommend getting one, the rebate just sweetens the deal.

The Lost Sock Mystery, a solution

Ever feel like your dryer eats your socks? Or wonder how another sock got a hole in it? This morning I was at my sister's house as I am dog sitting for her. My dog was on the bed playing with my sister's beagle and she had a sock in her mouth. She was using it as pull toy between the two of them.
I thought it is amazing how dogs can find ways to entertain themselves. While you certainly don't want them making toys out of anything they can get their little or big teeth on, you can find a way to use those old socks besides dusting. :)

From what I have found in stores this is a pretty good price point for the treats. I even find the mini version to be a nice treat for my pup.

Free Prints!

Walgreens is offering 20 free 4x6 prints today only. Use the code one day only at check out. I just did this deal and I will be paying .21 cents for 21 photos, making them a penny a piece! You can get them for free if you just order 20, so don't think you need to order more than 20. When they offered a free 8x10 I literally walked in the store, picked it up and walked right back out!

Rite Aid also has some coupons out this week to save either $10/30 dollar purchase or $5/20 purchase. If your Publix accepts these as competitor coupons, you could use it to stock up on dog treats and other groceries! For those of you without a Publix in your area, you can use this coupon as a time to stock up on their single check rebate items and use dog toys etc as fillers! I bet their Valentine's day clearance still has some plush toys your pup would love to tear a part!

Coupon for Pledge Fabric Sweeper for Pet Hair

Save $2.00 now on the Pledge Fabric Sweeper for Pet Hair here. If you are not a member of the Right@Home community you will need to create an account.

This product looks very similar to the 3m Scotch Fur Remover. I purchased one this summer when they had a 4.00 off man. coup that I combined with a 4.00 off Target coupon. I use it in my car to remove dog fur from my fancy cloth seats(haha), but really it works like a charm. It works better than a lint brush because it is more like a brush than just an adhesive. I'll probably print the coupon and see if one of the drug stores(CVS, Walgreens or Rite Aid) turns it into a deal. Otherwise, I'll just stick with my 3m product.

The Target I frequent currently has a promotional bag of Pupperoni offering 25% more free for 2.69. Use the 1.00 off coupon from their website or coupons.com and get them for 1.69.

Publix has chew-a-lot bones for 2/5.00. Use the coupon where you buy one chew-a-lot get a free box of meaty bone dog treats for free. You'll get both items for 2.50 or 1.25 each. Publix also had cesar dog food marked down to .60 a pack. This was not in the dog food aisle at my store but rather with the rest of the clearance items. They also had a few cans of Alpo for .56 cents.

Free Dog Food!

Frugal in Virgina has the scoop on how to get a few cans of Halo dog food for free here.

Double Coupons at Kmart!

Mercedes over at Common Sense with Money is reporting double coupons at Kmart next week. Go here for the list of stores that have confirmed they are participating. This is a great time to stock up on dog treats for a very low cost. You can only use four of the same coupon and usually it will only double coupons up to 2.00(although one week it was 3.00). I've heard that you can't use internet printed coupons, however, it may be up to your store.

Last time I got beggin strips for .25 a bag and a 5lb bag of Goodlife dog food for 1.99!

Petco Science Diet Deal

Science Diet is once again on sale at Petco this week. Pair the sale price with the 5.00 off coupon in previous weeks coupon inserts or with the 3 bag challenge coupon, and you can save $13.00 off a 40lb bag of dog food. You can also use the $5.00 a 25 dollar purchase coupon found here.
You should be able to use both coupons in the transaction, but it might be up to your Petco store. The coupon is good through 2/15 and the ad runs through Saturday. While the sales price is not listed in the ad, you would save 18 dollars(8.00 off, plus 2 $5.00 off coupons) off a 40 lb bag of Science Diet.
Plus, if you buy the same size and type as you usually do, you would receive another bag credit towards your Petco P.A.L.S free bag reward!

If you live in the Southeast, the Publix ad this week shows Milkbone dog treats as buy one/get one. Some publix stores do not require you to buy 2 items to get the sales price(for instance mine does not). If this is the case for your area you could get a box for 1.84. Jenny at Southern Savers has the coupon match ups for you as well. Go here for more information.

Organizing Your Pet's Items

If you subscribe to Good Housekeeping you might have read the article on organizing your pet's items. I did and it got me thinking about what items the article mentioned and which I utilize already.
1. A rubber mat under your the food and water dishes. I picked one up last Christmas while they were on clearance. I think I paid around .47 cents for a snowman. If you wanted the dish to match the season or be less seasonal you could watch for after season clearances to pick one up. Many times the Christmas ones are things like snowflakes or in the spring you could find one that has flowers etc. The purpose of the mat is to help with keep the area clean. I think these are a cheap alternative to a pet food dish holder.

2. A pillow for your pet. The one in the article was from L.L. Bean and carried a hefty price tag. You could use online codes and watch for sales to score one for a better price point. Or you could make your own. I picked one up from Walgreens a while back with some register rewards I had got. I also had made my pet one for less than ten dollars with some old t-shirts, fabric and pillows(google pet pillow for pattern ideas if you are crafty.). My dog loves pet pillows and I consider it a worthy investment. Make sure that if you buy a pet pillow from the store it's washable. If you ever deal with fleas, allergies or odors, you will want a pillow that can be washed.

3. An organizer that will hold your pet toys. I got a neat little container during Target's back to school clearance( a great time to pick up organizers on the cheap!). It holds my pets squeeky toys, ropes, leash and other items. It helps keep my living room trip free and my dog knows exactly where she can find her toys. I have a co-worker that keeps her pets toys in a drawer in an ottoman. A cute tote bag would work too. Be creative with how you keep your pets toys in a way that works for you.

Homemade Dog Treats

Dog treats can cost a pretty penny if you don't stock up great deals with the opportunity comes along. I was looking at dog treats yesterday in Target to see what the price of Pupperoni treats would be after my coupons I found on coupons.com. They would still run about 1.64 for a 6 oz bag. That's a little higher than I would like to spend on a bag of treats that will last maybe a week. Every feel the disappointment when you open a bag that looks large to find it's mostly just air(and this is not just limited to dog treats, chips, other snack items included). Another option is to make your own dog treats.

My sister gave me this really cute dog treat kit for Christmas. It included a book of dog recipes and a pack of cookie cutters in dog friendly shapes, think fire hydrants, bones etc. Here is a recipe my sister shared with my several months ago. She was even kind enough to send a bag of them. My dog loved them!

Here is what you will need
1 tsp beef bouillon
1 egg
1 jar bacon bits
1/3 cup vegetable oil
1/2 cup hot water
1/2 instant non fat dry milk
2 1/4 cup of whole wheat flour

Combine ingredients. Cut into dog friendly shapes, depending on the size of your dog will be on how you decide to cut them. When my sister made them she used medium size shapes like stars and moons. Bake in the oven at 375 for 10 minutes or until done.

Mail Call

I recently received my free sample of Rachel Ray's new dog food line. In the box included two coupons. One for a dollar off Rachel Ray dog treats and one for 2.00 off a bag of dog food. Look for the dog food one within the actual sample of dog food. The treat one should be with the your welcome note.

My dog scarfed up her sample right away. Then again beagles are highly motivated by food.
